Shenzhen is a major city in the south of Southern China’s Guangdong Province, situated immediately north of Hong Kong. The area became China’s firstand one of the most successfulSpecial Economic Zones (SEZs). The municipality covers an area of 2,050 square kilometres (792 sq mi) including urban and rural areas, with a total population of 14 million in 2008. It currently also holds sub-provincial administrative status, with powers slightly less than a province.

One of China’s gateways to the world, Shenzhen is one of the country’s most developed cities and one of the fastest-growing cities in the world. The city is the high-tech and manufacturing hub of southern China, home to the world’s fourth-busiest container port, and the fourth-busiest airport on the Chinese mainland. It is one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations. The high-tech, financial services, modern logistics and cultural industries are mainstays of the city. New industries of strategic importance and modern service industries are quickly becoming new engines for the city’s economic growth.

Shenzhen is an ecological garden city, with half of its total area under a form of environmental protection that bans construction. The urban greenbelt coverage in developed areas is 45.05 percent. Shenzhen is China’s first Chinese city to win the Nations in Bloom Award, and named on the United Nations Environment Program’s Global Top 500 Laureate Roll of Honor.

Climate

Shenzhen has a subtropical marine climate. The weather is generally temperate to mild, with plenty of rain and sunshine. The annual average temperature is 22.4 degrees Celsius. A total of 355 days a year are frost-free. The yearly rainfall totals 1,933.3 millimeters and the average annual number of hours of sunshine is 2,120.5.

Attractions

The Window of the World is a theme park located in the western part of the city of Shenzhen in the People’s Republic of China. It has about 130 reproductions of some of the most famous tourist attractions in the world squeezed into 48 hectares (118 acres). The 108 metre (354 ft) tall Eiffel Tower dominates the skyline and the sight of the Pyramids and the Taj Mahal all in proximity to each other are all part of the appeal of this theme park.

Splendid China is an attraction at the Overseas Chinese Town, Shenzhen that has scaled down replicas of China’s historical buildings, wonderful scenes and folk customs. The scale models are in the main in a ratio of 1:15 and the exhibits are positioned to replicate their geographical locations. Here you can see replicas of many of the most famous Chinese buildings and landmarks and a great deal of attention has been paid to detail so as to ensure the miniatures truly represent their originals. This has entailed making full use of the services of architectural specialists and landscape experts who are actively engaged with research and conservation at the actual sites that have been replicated here. The exhibits are surrounded by pleasant gardens with many flowers and trees. Consequently walking there can be very relaxing. Apart from the miniature buildings and scenic spots, one may see over 50,000 ceramic figures in the different locations. Splendid China is divided into two parts, a Scenic Spot Area and a Comprehensive Service Area.

China Folk Culture Villages : China is a big and united family made up of 56 ethnic groups. Geographically speaking, they are distributed in different parts of China with the resulting difficulty of experiencing each ethnic group’s architecture, their festivals and tasting their snacks during one of your visits. But the China Folk Cultural Village, lying at the Overseas Chinese Town, Shenzhen, will help solve this problem. It is the first spot in China where you can learn of the folk cultures of China. The more than 200,000 square meters (about 494 acres) has 24 peculiar cottages which are constructed at a ratio of 1:1 and are very welcoming to all visitors. In the village, you will see the distinctive architecture of ethnic groups and join their brilliant festivals. Buying some handicrafts or tasting local snacks is another way to experience the China Folk Culture Village.

Shenzhen Happy Valley, a large modern theme park in China, is located in Nanshan District of the city. Covering an area of 350,000 square meters (about 86 acres), the park boasts large quantities of breathtaking and exciting amusements to satisfy anyone’s desire for modern entertainments. The whole park is composed of nine areas with different themes, including Spanish Square, Cartoon City, Mt. Adventure, Gold Mine Town, Shangri-la Woods, Sunshine Beach, Typhoon Bay, Playa Maya Water Park and Happy Times. The park encompasses nearly 100 exciting games for adults and children. Every day in the park, there are excellent performances in different styles, such as magic, acrobatics and extreme sports.

Da Meisha and Xiao Meisha are two beaches which form the coastal scenic area on the shore of Dapeng Bay in Yantian District of Shenzhen City. This scenic area has been a popular place where people have been happy since ancient times. Nowadays guesthouses, hotels, villas and camping houses can be found along the seashore offering tourists somewhere to relax and enjoy the beautiful seaside scenery.
